Women of the Word Moments

Excerpts from our Book of the Month

"The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren

"Real servants serve God with a mind set of five attitudes:

Servants think more about others than about themselves.

Servants think like stewards not owners.

Servants think about their work not what others are doing.

Servants base their identity in Christ.

Servants think of "Ministry" as an opportunity, not an obligation."

When Jesus walked this earth, He spoke a lot about servanthood, how we must learn to serve others and how the first shall be last and the last first. Jesus was an example of true servanthood. He showed us the example that we are to follow by washing the feet of others. Jesus did not have to wash anyone's feet, they should have been washing His feet! But instread, He put His flesh aside and became a living example of how we should be willing to serve others. Without compromising His message of being set free from the law, He was able to demonstrate how to truly serve others. This is a true example of how to be doers and not just hearers of the word. He was an example for those who walked with Him. He made disciples of those who followed Him. They followed His example and became servants in His ministry.

When true servants work in the ministry, they are grateful for the oppurtunity to serve God. If we had to pick our area of ministry, we would pick the ministry that is most satisfying and the least time consuming. That's why when you are set in the body of Christ at a paticular ministry, it is more difficult to serve. We are not always given the tasks that we would choose ourselves. It usually requires sacrifice. I don't think that Jesus enjoyed washing feet. But He humbled Himself, because it was a chance to show true servanthood. We can also set an example to others of what true servanthood should look like.
It is only through serving others that we can truly be free of all the chains that bind us. When we lose all pride, selfishness, deny our flesh, and set aside our own agendas, we are free to love and serve The Lord in the selfless way that He showed us when He, Himself walked this earth.

The Lord is soon to come, look around and you can tell that time is winding up. Jesus will soon return. The Bible tells us that we are to "occupy" until He comes. That means to be busy in the work of the ministry until Jesus' return. If we are putting more emphasis on setting ourselves up on earth, than we are building treasures in heaven, then we need to make an adjustment. Once we know the truth, we are free to do His work as servnats on this earth until His glorious return.
